Come As You Are

Today’s blog post comes with a little help from my coworker, Charity.
She sent me a video on Facebook of a preacher telling a story that really stuck with me. He talked about a man he used to see every day outside of a store. You could tell this man had lived a rough life—missing teeth, dirty skin, greasy hair, holes in his clothes. He probably didn’t smell the best either.

One day, the preacher decided to go up to him and invite him to church. After a few invitations, the man eventually agreed to check it out. When Sunday came, the preacher waited about 30 minutes at church, hoping the man would show up—but he never did.

So the preacher went back to the store and told the man he had missed him, and that maybe they could try again another time. That’s when the man looked at him and said,
“I did show up. But a man in a suit came up to me and said I wasn’t allowed inside unless I was wearing my Sunday best—because you’re supposed to wear your best in God’s house.”

The preacher was heartbroken. Because the truth is—it doesn’t matter what you’re wearing, as long as you’re wearing something.

The moral of the story is simple: Come as you are.
God doesn’t care about your clothes or your appearance when you come to Him. What matters is your heart. He just wants to know you.

As a woman with over 25 tattoos and gauges, I know I don’t necessarily look “Christianly” to some people. But that’s exactly why you don’t judge a book by its cover—you judge it by its fruit.

At the end of the day, if you want to get to know God, read your Bible and pray to Him. The best way to connect with Him is through the Word—because the Word is God.

Just remember: God sees your heart and your soul.
He knows what’s in your spirit. Don’t lose hope.

Special shoutout to my friend Connor—never give up, and never lose faith. Life gets hard, but God will never give up on you.

Also, big shoutout to Roman for always being supportive and helping me see the bright side of life.
